Task Index

Pupils work with their classmates to brainstorm all the ideas and knowledge  about the seasons, and then take a vote on which season is their favourite.  As a whole class, you can put the data into a spreadsheet and create a simple pie chart to represent the results of the poll.

After a whole-class discussion, pupils work in pairs to learn about the various movements of the earth, and how those movements affect our seasons.

After a whole-class introduction, pupils work in pairs or as individuals to learn about the north-south division of the earth, and how position means everything in terms of seasonal weather.

After a whole-class Internet investigation about UK weather forecasts, pupils work in pairs to conduct research about the climate of a country in the southern hemisphere.

Pupils are asked to attend a UN conference on children held in the country they accessed the weather forecast for in Task 4.  They must work in pairs or individually to pack a pretend suitcase with all the things they think you might need if they were to travel to your country in the southern hemisphere, taking into account the weather forecast they recorded in the previous task.

These are two additional activities that you might want to assign to pupils who find it very easy to accomplish the tasks above.  If you can think of any other extensions, please email me and we can include them in the lesson.

Thanks!
