As the World Orbits

TEACHERS

Resource Needs:  graphic/paint package, or just ordinary drawing implements, word processing package.

Learning Objectives: The children will understand how important it is to anticipate climate changes when trying to determine what to wear by imagining they are going on a trip to the southern hemisphere.

Prior Knowledge/Skills: basic word processing skills, basic paint skills. (unless you have chosen to do this activity away from the computer).

CAN BE FOR HOMEWORK INSTEAD OF CLASS TIME.

Set the scene:

Tell the children that they have been asked to make a last-minute trip to the South American country that they found the weather forecast for.  They must pack a small suitcase of things for their journey.  They should consult their WEATHER FORECAST worksheet that they completed during the last session to determine what sort of gear they should pack.

First they must either make a list of things in their suitcase, or they can draw each item - either using pen and paper, or wordprocessing and a paint package, and then they must write a paragraph explaining why they chose the items they did.
