Lesson #1 Introduction Web Quest

Aim: French Gastronomy

Do Now: Define the word gastronomy

Materials: Computer access, Internet

  • This introductory lesson will familiarize the students with life in France and some background information on the 5 w's... who, what, when, where, and why.
  • The students will go on a Web Quest. The main web site being used is http://french-at-a-touch.com/Gourmet/gourmet.htm.
  • Students will navigate through this portion of the web site using the links for Introduction - Mealtime Traditions - At a restaurant -  Menu - Etiquette

The questions being answered are the following:

1- What are the three types of cuisine offered in France?

2- What are the characteristics for each type of cuisine? List them.

3- How many different types of cheeses does France produce?

4- What is breakfast called in France?

5- What does a typical French breakfast consist of?

6- What is lunch called in France and what time do they eat?

7- What do they call dinner and what time do they eat?

8- There are 7 parts to a traditional French meal, what are they?

9- What is the menu du jour?

10- List 3 similarities about eating in France and the U.S.

11- List 3 differences about eating in France and the U.S.

12- Look at the French menu. Now order lunch or dinner by writing a list of things you would order in French

In class assignment/ Homework

To create a French menu of the items chosen from the web site. The menu should be artistically designed and have a French design and name on the cover. You should tell the reader if you are eating breakfast, lunch or dinner (In French)

1- Create a menu for either breakfast lunch or dinner.

2- Using the web site above make a list of about 10 food items that would be on a menu for the meal you choose.

3- Think of a name for your restaurant. Be sure to include important information on the cover.

4- You can use Microsoft Word to design the menu or you may design it by hand.
