         ACTIVITIES
  1. Brainstorm with the class about inventions that have been created or discoveries scientist have made.

  2. Students will predict what kind of inventions or discoveries they think came from scientist in Ancient Rome or Italy.

  3. Read Harcourt Brace Social Studies, Changing Times pages 472-473

  4. Discuss how scientists use tables and graphs to organize and display data.

  5. Review how to make tables and line graphs and what they represent.

  6. Give students instruction sheet on information to gather.

  7. Students will create a table to write the information they find as they do research on the internet, library or other resource.

  9. They will then use the table to create a timeline of inventions.

  10. Students may use any software available that allows them to create a timeline or visit  create a timeline

HOMEWORK
  • Students will think about an invention or discovery that has helped them personally.
  • Students will write to tell what is that invention and what difference it has made in their life.
EXTENSION
  • Students will pick an Italian scientist and do research on.
  • They will write a detailed report telling about the scientist, the year and their  accomplishments and explain how has this invention impacted society.
  • They will present their report to the class using a presentation board using visuals printed from the computer or other resources.
