               ACTIVITIES
  1. Make a web and ask students to list all the religions they know about.

  2. Discuss what the word "religion" means.  What a person believes about God or many gods.

  3. Ask students to predict what kind of religions they think existed in Ancient Rome. 

  4. Discuss how in the United States we have freedom of religion and how the government and                         religion do not work together.

  5. Tell students that in Ancient Rome many times the people had to follow the religion of the                          emperor or they would be killed. 

  6. In doing this lesson, students will write a report answering the following questions.

        a. Myths of Roman gods

        b. How many Roman gods were there?

        c.  How did they worship?

        d.  Which emperor brought about a big change in religious believes in 
             Rome? Explain.

        e.  How has religion in Rome changed through the ages?

        f.  What religious institution today is a city in Italy outside of Rome?

   7.   Read  Harcourt Brace Social Studies page 462-463

   8.   Students will read further about Roman religions to do their report.

  • Is it good to have so many gods?
  • Should people be sacrificed to gods?
  • Why is having freedom of religion a good idea?
