Welcome to Mrs. Fonseca's Computer Class!

Procedure:

 
1.  Students will open Microsoft Word and follow the teacher’s instructions:
       a.  Click Times New Roman for the font and 24 for the font size.
       b.  Click the Center button.
       c.  Type your survey title. 
       d.  Press Enter two times.  Take off the Center button.
       e.  Type the word(s) after Favorite.  Press the space bar 5-10 times.
       f.  Type Boys.  Press the space bar 5-10 times.
       g.  Type Girls.  Press the space bar 5-10 times.
       h.  Type Total.  Press Enter twice.
       i.   Type first choice.  Press Enter twice.
       j.   Type second choice.  Press Enter twice.
       k.  Type third choice.  Press Enter twice.
       l.   Type fourth choice.  Press Enter twice.
       m. Type fifth choice.  Press Enter twice.
       n.  Type name.  Press Enter.
       o.  Type grade and homeroom.
  2.  Click the Line tool and draw a horizontal line half way between the survey title and the following line.
       The line should extend a little pass the end words.
Hint:  Hold down shift to keep the line straight.
  3.  Click Edit and Copy.
  4.  Click Edit and Paste.  Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, position the
       line half way between the total line and the first choice line.
  5.  Repeat Step 4 until the last line is positioned half way between the last choice and the students’ name.
  6.  Click the Line tool again.  Draw a vertical line from the left edge of the top line to the bottom line.
  7.  Click Edit and Copy.
  8.  Click Edit and Paste.  Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, position the line half way between the title
       and Boys.
  9.  Click Edit and Paste.  Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, position the line half way between Boys
       and Girls.
10.  Click Edit and Paste.  Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, position the line
       half way between Girls and Total.
11.  Click Edit and Paste.  Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, position the line on 
       the right edge of the horizontal lines.

12.  Students will Spell Check and Save their work.
13.  The teacher will Print one copy of the completed page.

Evaluation:


The teacher will grade the tally sheet.  Points will be deducted for misspelled words and missing information.

Lesson 4Graphs (Part 1 – Practice Graphs)

Estimated Time:


1-2 class periods (55 minutes each)

Objectives:

1.  Students will use Microsoft Excel to create two practice graphs. 
2.  Students will follow written, sequential instructions.

Materials:


Computers (one per student)
Software Program:  Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Excel Instruction Worksheet
(sample)
3½" floppy disks

Procedure:

1.  The teacher will distribute a Microsoft Excel instruction worksheet to students.
2.  Students will open Microsoft Excel.
3.  The teacher will walk the students through the instructions for creating a  “Total Graph.” 
4.  Students will follow the instructions for creating a “Boys and Girls Graph” on their own. 

Evaluation:


The teacher will monitor the students and provide needed help as they work on the practice graphs.

Lesson 4Graphs (Part 2 – Survey Graphs)

Estimated Time:

1-2 class periods (55 minutes each)

Objectives:


1.  Students will use Microsoft Excel to create two graphs, based on their survey results.
2.  Students will follow written, sequential instructions.

Materials:

Computers (one per student)
Software Programs:  Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel Instruction Worksheet
Completed survey sheets
Completed tally sheet
(sample)
3½" floppy disks
Printer
