By working in groups the students who are deficient in writing skills are aided by those with a greater writing ability. The novelette can be put on the school or classroom website. It may also be printed and copied for use in the classroom.

Procedure
1) Working together in groups of five or six, students will write an outline including the plot of a novelette. |
2) In each group students will work in twos and begin to write the opening. They will read their writing aloud and critique each other's work. They may then combine their opening until the group is satisfied with one opening section. |
3) Each group will revise work after having read each other's homework. (see homework) |
4) Continue writing, adding more to the story and conclude the first installment by leaving the reader "hanging." |

Use Novelette Rubric for assessment.
Homework
Copy the story onto a floppy disk and after each day of writing, revise and edit it on home computer. Each disk will be read by those in each group and a consensus will be drawn as to which revisions are kept.
