The students learn how to apply for a job and create a resume. The resume is geared toward real-world jobs they may have when they are about 12-15 years old as well as their community service jobs in middle and high school. It will is helpful to include the name of the "company" the student is applying to so all papers graded contain the same criteria.

Procedure
1) Review or teach how to write a letter of self recommendation
2) Each student will complete the following "Job Application."
3) Read the applications aloud.
4) The teacher reads the letters of recommendation to verify clarity, style,
syntax, spelling and legibility.

Students will use the following checklist for evaluation:
1) Have I filled out each section of the application?
2) Is my information accurate?
3) Have I written legibly?
4) Have I spelled correctly?
5) Have I capitalized words when necessary?
6) Is my self-description paragraph written clearly with concise language?
Homework
Look
for a job in the want ads of a newspaper and "apply" for it using the above
form.
Extension Activities
Interview several adults and ask them a
series of questions based on job interviews, such as "What is the most important aspect of a job interview?" The students will
write the answers and read them aloud in class.
