CULTURE, CLIMATE, AND CURRENT EVENTS
Learning Objectives: GRADES 3-12
TIME FRAME: 3-6 Weeks
By the end of this lesson the
students will:
1. Use Inspiration/Kidspiration
or chalkboard to create a word splash.
2. Research the country of their choice
through the Internet viewing various printed information, encyclopedias and
video presentations.
3. Explore the culture, climate and current
events of the selected country.
4. Use new vocabulary to describe the
country.
5. Write a report describing some aspects of
the countryÕs climate, culture or current events.
6. Create their own
class Web page about the countryÕs culture, climate and current
events using Microsoft Word.
Upon completion of this unit students will
understand:
a. That
cultures vary around the world and that they are dependant to some extent on
geographical conditions.
b.
That
people from different cultures may still share similar characteristics.
Students will read, write, listen and speak for information and understanding, As listeners and readers, students will collect data, facts and ideas, discover relationships, concepts and generalizations; and use knowledge generated from oral, written, and electronically produced texts. As speakers and writers they will use oral and written language to acquire, interpret, apply, and transmit information.
Students will read, write, ands peak for literary expression Ð Students will read and listen to oral, written and electronically produced texts and performances, relate texts and performances to their own lives, and develop an understanding of the diverse social, historical and cultural dimensions the texts and performances represent. As speakers and writers, students will use oral and written language for self-expression and artistic creation.
Students understand the ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to technology.
Students develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.
Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.
Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models, prepare publications, and produce other creative works.
Students will read, write, listen and speak for critical analysis and evaluation Ð As listeners and readers, students will analyze experiences, ideas, information and issues presented by others using a variety of established criteria. As speakers and writers, they will present in oral and written language and from a variety of perspectives, their opinions and judgments on experience, ideas, information and issues.
