To make a word splash: Introduce the topic: What is Culture?,- and ask students to think about what they know about the topic and why it is important. Write down the studentsÕ responses, list key words about the topic on the computer using a projector and Kidspiration/Inspiration or use the chalkboard or overhead transparency. Video:Culture:What Is It?

This program answers the question, "What is culture?" It defines culture as the sum total of the human experience, a people's whole way of life. Dividing culture into material and nonmaterial types, on-location video provides examples of both from a variety of cultures around the world. Students will see and hear about the similarities and the differences between cultures, how people with similar backgrounds share similar cultural traits, and how these traits are passed from generation to generation.
