Assessment and Student Work

Assessment of Final Continent Project (Drawing and Report)

As a teacher, I find that I like to determine what assessment qualifiers are most appropriate for my students. The assessment standards provided here are suggested guidelines. There are two parts to the Continent Project which must be assessed. 1) The student's drawing of their continent from lesson one and 2) The Continent Report itself. The drawing and the report should be directly related in terms of the connections the students make between the location and physical land formations of their continent with its discovery, exploration and development. For a straight forward progressive assessment tool, please download the Continent Project Assessment Rubric. I suggest that the rubric is a useful tool in establishing expectations for the students and should be given to the students prior to the completion of the project. I find that allowing the students to assess their own work prior to the teacher, encourages a more thoughtful completion of the work by the students
