Procedures:

1. Inform the students that Africa has a wide variety of wildlife.  Some of these animals do not exist anywhere else on Earth.  Some are becoming more and more rare.  Some have even become extinct.

2.  Have the class view the video National Geographic's African Wildlife or National Geographic's Really Wild Animals: Swinging Safari as a basic overview of the lesson. You can visit the National Geographic website for other available titles or visit your local library.

3. Have the student write their observations during the viewing of the video.

4. After viewing the video, discuss with the students what were some of their observations.  What animals did they see?; What habitat did the animals live in?; How have people affected the animals environment?; Are any of the animals endangered?; Ask what can be done to protect the wildlife? How do zoos help protect and assist endangered animals?

5. Tell the class that they will create a virtual zoo of African Wildlife to help better inform the public about these animals.

6. Using Microsoft Word or other web page composer, each student will research a specific animal and create a web page using the following criteria:

Web page must include: Title (name of animal), Picture, 5 facts, and note whether animal is an endangered species.

7. Have the students visit the following two websites to preview examples of a virtual zoo. Virtual tour or Video Clips.

8. Using the links below and Internet search engines have the students research their animals.
