Aim:    To complete the table below using the 2 main web sites listed below. Using this table to then make value judgements whether you think a country is rich or poor and why.

Websites:        www.worldpop.org/prbdata.htm

                        www.worldinformation.com

Tasks:

1)      You will need to choose any 10 countries of your choice, try to pick some unusual ones as well! If you can’t think of 10 ask to look at an atlas or have a look at the list of countries on the worldinformation website. Fill these in to the left column of the table.

2)      The top of the table has headings for various social and economic indicators such as GNP and infant mortality. Read through these, if you can’t remember what these terms mean look back to your glossary from last lesson. Remember the units are different, some are percentages, others are $ and some are per thousand people per year.

3)      You are now going to fill in these indicators for each country you have chosen, you only need to put a figure in each box. To do this you are going you are going to look at the 2 websites listed above, you might have to do quite a bit of searching to get all the information but it should be there. If you really can’t find the information for a country you have chosen, choose another one. If it is just one of the indicators you can’t find, leave it blank, it is possible that the country hasn’t got information on this factor. This is often the case with Developing Countries, can you think why?

4)      Once you have filled out the whole table apart from the very last column MEDC/LEDC, copy and paste your table onto a blank page in word and the save it.

5)      Finally print a copy out to stick in your book along with your glossary.
