Step #4: What is
the existing policy?
Executive
The executive branch carries out the laws or public policies passed by
the legislators. Examples include:
- local government - the mayor, police, recreation workers, school
teachers
- state government - the governor, state police, state park workers
- national government - the President, F.B.I. agents, national park
workers
Some executive branch workers are very powerful. Decisions made by
mayors, governors and presidents are government actions. Therefore, they
are public policies. But actions by all executive branch workers involve
carrying out public policies. Your teacher uses the state curriculum.
Local police officers are enforcing the laws of your city.
