IMSL - Flower Power
Where Am I?

Read these clues before labeling the parts of the flower on the next page.

  1. Stamen - I look like a bunch of bean sprouts and I have two parts. The top part of me is called the anther and the bottom part of me is called the filament.
  2. Pistil - My base, which is called the ovary, is large and oval shaped. Inside this ovary is an ovule, where the eggs are produced. Located on top of the ovary is a tube-like structure called the style. On the very top of the style is the stigma.
  3. Petal - I am the prettiest part of the flower. I come in a variety of colors, and people like to pluck me off while chanting, "She/he loves me, she/he loves me not…"
  4. Sepal - I'm underneath the petals and I look like a petal, except I am smaller and green.

  5. Receptacle - I am located right underneath the sepal and I support the flower.
