STUDENT SAMPLES |
The following student samples are of magnetic properties. The children used magnets and compasses to explore around the room.
Though difficult to see, the children described what the magnets were attracted to, and how the compass behaved when a magnet was placed near it. I would rate this as above standard since each child described five distinct properties. |
After testing ten different magnets with paper clips, the children graphed their results in bar graphs and pie charts.
Again, I would rate these standard setting, because they understood the assignment and translated it into a graph.
This is a picture of the graph created on the iMac in my classroom. |
After students sprinkled iron filings on a white paper over a magnet, they were able to see the magnetic field form around the magnet. Here is a drawing of the activity.
Standard setting. It shows the field and explains it. |
Here are written observations, diagrams, and pictures of students at work making circuits and testing for conductivity.
As you can see, all the children in the pictures were able to make an electric circuit. They tested their materials and were able to say which were conductors and which were insulators. This is standard setting work. |
The above pictures show the children making an electromagnet. They were able to pick up paper clips when the electromagnet was on.
