Background Information

Folktales are traditional stories passed down from generation to generation. Their characters are usually animals, although not always. These stories often teach a lesson Many of these stories contain information about the country and teach a moral about human behavior and relationships. This lesson is focused on language arts and exposes students to folktales of many countries.  Students will have a chance to choose what they want to read, as well as, understand how folktales have been passed on from generation to generation and gain insight into cultural differences and similarities. Students will create their version of the folktale.  Also compare how two different cultures can have the same focus when telling stories.
