How to create your own page using a template How to upload your page

templates: one, two

my index page home page
students' work Teachnet Web Site class home page

Create your own web page using a template:

  • Create a folder with your last name on the hard drive. Then create a folder in this one with a short name such as I used for this page-simple. The name should indicate what the web page is about. Then create a folder -images -in the folder for this page.
  • Copy template to hard drive from Internet: Go to template on the Internet-http://teachersnetwork.org/teachnet-lab/fklane/pmaslow/template.html or for a poetry template: http://teachersnetwork.org/teachnet-lab/fklane/pmaslow/poem.htm. Go to File, and click on save as. Put the template in a folder on the hard drive where you will be able to remember where to find it. Give it a short name you will remember.
  • Open template on computer: Use either Netscape Navigator, MS Word Web page, or MS Front Page Editor or any web creation software. Click on File, and then open and find the saved template file and click on it.
  • Create Hyperlinks: Look at the top of the template page. The first two hyperlinks on the left are done for you. To create your own index page(first page of your web site) highlight the words- my index page. Then you click on the Insert Menu on top and scroll down until you see the word hyperlink. Click on hyperlink and a dialogue box will appear. In the space provided type the link correctly- http://teachersnetwork.org/teachnet-lab/school/last name/index.htm. Then click okay. Now do another link. Highlight the words, home page. This time the link will be http://teachersnetwork.org/teachnet-lab/school/last name/home.htm or what ever name you give this file and then .htm.
  • Type text and change fonts, color and size of text. Type your text. Highlight the text you want to change and then go to format and choose the size, color and font you want.
  • Change colors of tables and cells: A cell is part of a table. The table is the larger box. To change the table or cell colors you have to highlight the table or cell. (With Front Page Editor-a bold arrow appears when your cursor is in the correct position and then you click using the mouse.) Go to table or cell properties and choose the background color.
  • Find and save graphics to insert: You can use digital photos that you load onto your hard drive. You can scan in objects or photos onto your hard drive. You can also find images and animations on the Internet. Two good sites to look for images are http://google.com and then go to images and search and http://altavista.com . For animations go to http://animfactory.com. You will save all images for this web page in your images folder that you previously created.
  • Insert graphics: Put the cursor where you want to insert an image. Go to Insert and clickwhen you get to the word image or picture. Then you browse choosing your images folder and then you select the image you want.
  • Save your web page. Go to File, Save as, and save in the web page folder you created previously. Choose a short name such as home.htm. You must put the .htm at the end of the name usually. In some html programs it may be done for you.
