Food Activities I

This week the homework will center on food activities activities. The activities are appropriate for K-3, except as noted. Feel free to copy, cut, and paste the assignments into your own word processor for sending home (or print this page).

Day 1
Since this is a three day week of assignments, we will be working with foods we eat. Tonight, have the children write a list of everything they eat after school until bedtime. This includes snacks, dinner and before bed treats. Use this list to categorize foods in class.

Day 2
Have the children look around their kitchens and make a list of five hard foods and five soft foods. (You could change this to any two categories you choose). Use the list for in-class reading activities.

Day 3
Have the children check around their kitchen for foods in each of the following colors. Draw a picture of one food for each color. While you can suggest any colors, here are five choices: red, green, pink, brown, and orange. Use the pictures to make a collage and discuss food groups.
