This week the homework will center on container activities. The activities are appropriate for K-3, except as noted. Feel free to copy, cut, and paste the assignments into your own word processor for sending home (or print this page).
Day 1
After having a discussion in the classroom about container names and shapes (boxes, cans, bottles, and jars), have the child go home this evening and make a list of three things which come in each container type. The children should be able to copy the words from the container, but if not, dictate to an adult. You should get a list of three things which come in: boxes, jars, cans, and bottles. Bring the list to school.
Day 2
Examine the types of lids on the containers from yesterday. Draw a picture of four different types of lids or tops from real containers. Make them look as "real" as possible.
Day 3
Design a new kind of container. What shape will it be? What will it hold? What will it be made of? Draw a picture of it and bring it to school.
