Black History Month: Heros: Nelson Mandela

The following biography is one in a series of "My Hero Essays" written by students at Miami Lakes Middle School. Special thanks to teacher and web mentor Lottie Simms, Mrs. Ball, band director, and Mrs. Mayland, computer education teacher.

by Eric R.

Nelson Mandela was an important hero for the history of Africa. He became a hero by ending apartheid in South Africa. Aparthied was a time when whites mistreated you for your race (especially blacks). This time was very hard for blacks. Nelson Mandela even went to jail for fighting against apartheid, he had a terrible time those days. His struggle for the freedom of blacks in South Africa still goes on today.

He also wrote this book: Long Walk to Freedom
