Teachers Network: Adaptor Grants: Tantalizing Tangrams
Adapted By:
Lauren Lindner

Lauren Lindner has been teaching for 4 years. She tries her her hardest to incorporate technology whenever possible into her classroom.

P.S. 124
New York, NY
Principal: Alice Hom

Modifications

I decided to have students work individually on creating their tangram characters and folktales. I also created a graphic organizer for students to plan their folktales which was extremely helpful

Instructional Objectives

Students Will:

  • Explore tangrams to create animals/people
  • Create original folktales with characters
  • Use the computer to manipulate tans

Technology Integration

We used the internet to manipulate the tans. Students experimented with different rotations on the computer. We also used the computer to type our tangram folktales.

Assessment

Students' writing was evaluated using a rubric. The factors included writing mechanics, creativity, organization, and originality.

Tips for Teachers

This unit was well written and creative.   I would recommend teachers check each website before instructing students to go there.
