About Us

Teachers Network, a non-profit organization—by teachers, for teachers—with a 3-decade long track record of success, was dedicated to improving student learning in public schools nationally and internationally. Teachers Network was unique in its focus on professional development as the key to improving student achievement. Using the power of an award-winning web site, videos, and print resources, Teachers Network leveraged the creativity and expertise of a national and international community of outstanding educators to transform public schools into creative learning communities. Over the years, Teachers Network directly impacted over 1.5 million teachers and nearly 40 million students.

Major Features of Teachersnetwork.org

A professional community of teachers and educators working together to improve student achievement, Teachers Network served 21 national and international affiliates that had adopted one or more of its major program initiatives.

Knowing that teachers know best what teachers need, the goals were to support teachers in designing their own professional development, to document and disseminate the work of outstanding classroom teachers, and to help provide teachers with the knowledge and skills to become leaders in their classrooms and schools.

Teachers Network Leadership Institute (TNLI)
TNLI was established to improve student achievement by giving teachers an active voice in education policymaking so that policy decisions are informed by the realities of daily classroom life. TNLI MetLife Fellows—all full-time teachers from Teachers Network affiliates—researched key issues and developed recommendations based on their findings. These findings were then published and disseminated nationwide. To help get the word out, fellows routinely presented their research and recommendations to policymakers at all levels. In addition, many fellows served on local, state, and national education policy advisory boards and task forces.

Teachers Network helped teachers make the most of innovative and creative ideas by awarding them grants to package and disseminate their ideas to other interested teachers, who then adapted and tailored them to their own classrooms. More than 50,000 teachers received IMPACT II grants to develop, document, and disseminate innovative preK-12 programs in the curriculum areas of science, math, technology, and literacy.

The goal of TeachNet is to improve student learning by helping teachers develop appropriate and effective instructional materials that infuse the Internet and support local and state standards. Teachers had access to curriculum and technical specialists, grants, and a supportive network to further develop their skills throughout the year. Teacher projects were published online and disseminated to educators both locally and worldwide. These teachers were in the vanguard of educational reform, ensuring quality control of classroom instruction and responsible use of technology.

New Teacher Resource Program
Provided new teachers throughout the nation with a package of materials in order to support and nurture them as professionals—and help keep them teaching. All designed by teachers, for teachers, the three complementary components of the New Teacher Resource Program include: Teachers Network’s bestselling New Teachers Handbook; the CD-ROM series of videos—Successful Teaching Practices in Action; and, New Teacher Online Courses.
