When it comes to the education of students, nothing matters more than the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of teachers. What teachers have envisioned for themselves, for their students, and for their schools, can become a reality if ever increasing numbers of teachers actively work toward that vision and commit for the long haul. They must expand the conversations, accelerate collaborate efforts, and find ways as teachers in the Teachers Network have done to become agents of change.
","Adam Urbanski is the president of Rochester (NY) Teachers Association and a vice-president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). In Rochester, he proposed and designed an internship program for new teachers; a peer review intervention plan; a career ladder; and a homework hotline service for students. Adam is the director of the newly established Teacher Union Reform Network (TURN) aimed at creating a new vision of teachers' unions that supports needed changes in education. |
