Having spent a fair amount of my free time working with charter schools, I have developed a greater appreciation of the impact that good teachers have in the classroom. Simply put, education is a human capital business, and an American education underinvests in its greatest asset. At my charter school, we devoted 2% of our budget to teacher professional development, an embarrassingly low figure. Teachers Network makes it easier and cost effective for teacher professional development to happen. Moreover, the internet allows it to reach more teachers than ever before. I am excited about the prospect of joining the Teacher’s Network board, for it has a large opportunity to grow and have greater impact on what happens in the classroom. I would enjoy helping the organization diversify its funding base by developing its newer programs.
Ray Joseph, Jr. is the Director of Growth & Development for Teacher U. Ray is responsible for executing the organization’s growth strategy and for developing the resources required to support these expansion efforts. Prior to joining the education sector, Ray spent almost 15 years working in investment banking and asset management. He worked ten years at Capital Research Company, one of the nation’s three largest mutual fund companies. At Capital, he was a Vice President with research and portfolio management responsibility for US insurance and healthcare service companies. Prior to Capital, Ray was as an Associate at Morgan Stanley Asset Management and a Senior Financial Analyst at Merrill Lynch. Ray earned his A.B. cum laude from Harvard College and his MBA from Harvard University's Graduate School of Business.
Ray also serves on the boards of Future Leaders Institute Charter School and the Albert G. Oliver Program.
