I am proud to serve on the Board of Trustees for Teachers Network, an organization that inspires optimism and confirms my belief that supporting new and veteran teachers is the key to realizing greater student achievement.
After graduating from Dartmouth College with a major in Spanish (Latin American Studies), Dr. Janice (Gordon) Harris was recruited into teaching through a program called Teach for America. Her first assignment was as a teacher at The Mott Hall School in Harlem, NY. In 1996, Dr. Harris became the first New York City public school teacher to have an entire class of students equipped with laptop computers. This experience later afforded her the opportunity to work in private and public schools, in the United States and Bermuda, supporting teachers in using technology as a teaching tool. She has made numerous presentations and keynote addresses on the subject of technology integration.
While working full time, Dr. Harris pursued and received her certification in administration (City College of New York), her Master’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (College of New Rochelle) and culminated her studies with a Doctorate of Education in Leadership and Administration (Nova Southeastern University). Dr. Harris has been the principal of Haddam Elementary School in Connecticut for the last 6 years. She has recently joined the Board of Directors for Oak Hill, caring and nurturing providers of high-quality services and solutions for people with disabilities in Connecticut.
