Ellen Dempsey is the founder and President & CEO of Teachers Network. Ellen began her career in the classroom, where she taught English in New York City's Chinatown and then went on to become a guidance counselor in East Harlem. She served as Director of Education Programs through the Mayor’s Office for the New York City Bicentennial Corporation, and then became Assistant Director of Curriculum at the New York City Board of Education. In 1980, Ellen became the director of IMPACT II in New York City, which was the predecessor of Teachers Network. Currently, Teachers Network (www.teachersnetwork.org) is a major non-profit organization, comprising 25 national and international affiliates that have been supporting public school teachers at all levels throughout the past three decades.
