Research Question:
How will the use of Writer’s Workshop combined with instruction on the Six Traits of Writing improve student achievement in writing?
This has been a fascinating experience. The variety of data collection sources used has helped me analyze student progress. I intend to use several other collections between now and the end of the year, as well. The results are initially positive. Students are having more success as writers.
My biggest discovery has been how the workshop, along with the knowledge of the traits, has significantly increased student enthusiasm toward writing. They have become passionate writers. They believe, some for the first time, that they have important things to say. They are sharing strong emotional stories from their life experience. How these particular gains will be quantified remains to be seen. But as a teacher, I cannot help but to be energized about the positive results it is creating; students believe in themselves and their pen. |
