Though my start was a little rocky, I feel like I've finally got a handle on
the direction of my research topic. I completed data collection on how TMS
reading scores compare to other schools though posted WyCas results, as well
as how well we have done over the past three years on the district's Terra
Nova test.
I used these findings as part of the teacher survey I conducted before
Christmas break. I asked several questions about teacher feeling on reading at
our school, then asked them to review the data, and answer questions on their
feelings after seeing the data. I am at the point now of reviewing the
questionnaires.
From a quick look, teachers feel they need more training in reading in the
content area. They also feel that more reading support, perhaps a class or
pull out situation, is needed for low readers. An additional class or pull out
program cause problems with scheduling and finding a research supported
program that will work for our students. Funding may be available so this is
definitely worth looking into.
If this overlaps with your research project, I'd love to find some sources of
information on reading programs for middle school students that work. |
