Parent Involvement & Immigrant Engagement: How Can We Better Communicate With Our Allied Drive Area Families?
Research Summary

ABSTRACT:

Nine years into having children from the Allied Drive community at Crestwood, this physical education teacher wonders what can be done to get the families more connected to the school. After looking at different school events at the start of the 2004-05 school year to confirm her observations, the researcher began talking with others to get their insights. Data included attendance, staff questionnaires, discussions with staff members, and interviews with an Allied Drive parent and the principal. Results of the study will be used to implement an orientation for parents in the Allied Drive community as well as a buddy program to give struggling students another person to feel comfortable with at school.
