Seaworthy Presentations

 

Duration:        3 to 5 days

Objectives:     The student will identify creatures that live in the ocean.
                        The student will identify various ocean plant life.
                        The student will complete a HyperStudio presentation on an ocean        
                        creature.    

Materials:    HyperStudio or any multimedia program can be used.

Key Vocabulary:  food chain, kelp, marine, seaweed, habitat, coral reef, crustaceans, camouflage, mollusks

Procedures:  

Creating the HyperStudio Presentation

  1. Students will be creating four cards in their stack.  A Title card, Habitat/Eating Habits card, Illustration card, and a card for the Interesting Facts.
  2. The title card needs to include the title and students' names.

  4. After students have created their cards, take your class on a virtual fieldtrip.  Gather your students around the computer or if you have access to a projector, project their work for easier viewing.  Ask the children to present their own HyperStudio Card Stacks.

Assessment:

 Students multimedia presentations will be evaluated using a 5 Point Rubric.

Home Learning:

 Students will write ocean poetry in their electronic journal.  The students will write a diamonte poem on a sea creature studied in class.  Have them follow the following pattern:

Noun (sea animal 1)

Adjective, adjective (sea animal 1)

Participle, participle, participle (sea animal 1)

Noun, noun (sea animal1): noun, noun (sea animal 2)

Participle, participle, participle (sea animal 2)

Adjective, adjective (sea animal 2)

Noun (sea animal 2)
