You are now a member of your selected team. Your team will be graded as a whole. Be sure that you work together so that all members of your team have an adequate background of the positions and arguments that you will be proposing.

1.
Opening Statement Presenter: There will be an opening statement made by your team. This should be 3-5 minutes long and should state (define) your team's position and signpost a summary of the arguments/solutions that members of your team will be proposing.

Responsible Member(s): ____________________________

2. Topic/Position Presenters: These students present the main arguments for the team. Each presenter (2-3) gives specific details that support (prove) the team’s position. It is best to develop a few strong arguments and explain them fully.

                    Responsible Members: _____________________________

3. Cross Examiners: You should have at least 15 questions that can be asked of each of your 3 opponents. These should be on separate sheets of paper or on note cards for easy reference. The questions should be specifically directed to your opponents and should be concise and clear.

Responsible Member(s): ____________________________

4. Rebuttal Presenter: You should have answers prepared which will be used to respond to your opponents' questions. Imagine that you are a member of the other teams and determine what questions may be asked of your team.

Responsible Member(s): ____________________________

5. Scribes: You should take notes during the entire debate so that you may refer to these in your rebuttal and final presentation of your team's views.

Responsible Member(s): ____________________________

6. Closing Statement Presenter: You should have a final conclusive argument/statement drawn up which will be written at the end of your debate. This should be no longer than 7 minutes.

                    Responsible Member(s): ____________________________

When you have determined who will be responsible for each portion of your team's debate, you must prepare yourselves for the debate challenge ahead. The winning team will:

-have solid information for all points (research on the internet)

-have plenty of evidence to prove claims

-use teamwork to teach the group all of the important ideas

         behind each argument/point

-be creative, try to catch the other team off guard

-maintain a professional stance

Good luck! This assignment will be graded based upon your ability to debate the issues and convince the judges that your claim is valid. Examining the scoring rubric will help you prepare and understand how you will be rated.
