HOW IS A DINOSAUR PUT TOGETHER?

BUILDING A DINOSAUR

SKELETON

Skull and madible formed the braincase and jaws. Holes in the skull were fro muscles, nostrils, and glands. Teeth were specialized according to diet; new teeth replaced old ones, which fell out.

Ribs shielded the vital organs. Some dinosaurs also had belly ribs, called gastralia. Limb bones acted as levers worked by muscles.

SOFT ANATOMY

Bones were bound together by ligaments, and muscles were often attached to bones by tendons. Pared, opposing muscles contracted and relaxed to move limbs to and fro. Flesh-eaters digestive system had a fairly short, simple alimentary tract, but herbivores needed a long, complex intestine to break down fibrous vegetation.
