Lesson 6 - Putting It All Together

Instructional Objectives

Students will use their storyboards and narratives to complete their PowerPoint® presentations.

Class time needed: 2 - 45 minute class periods in the computer lab

Advance preparation and prerequisite knowledge/skills

• Basic PowerPoint® skills (from Lesson 4)

Materials needed

•    Access to computers with PowerPoint ® software
•    Access to narrative files produced in Lesson 5
•    Access to internet
•    Storyboards produced in Lessons 3 and 5

Procedures

Students will use their storyboards and PowerPoint® software to create their presentations.  They will:

•     Choose a background
•     Create a title page
•     Create slides that reflect their storyboards
•     Cut and paste their narrative information onto their slides adjusting text features such as size, font, and color
•     Create a bibliography page for their presentation

Extensions

Students can create additional slides that reflect other pertinent information for their state.  These could include:

•    Famous people from the state
•    Personal links to the state.  For example pictures of themselves visiting the state.
•    Additional graphics or maps

Homework

Students can complete their presentations at home.  Use e-mail to transfer the presentations between home and school.

Evaluation

Students will complete a minimum of a 6 slide PowerPoint® presentation that will include a title page, and at least one page for each characteristic/region, and a bibliography page.  The format of each slide will reflect the collaboratively designed rubric for proportion of text to graphics.  The text for each slide is the result of Lesson 5 and will follow Grade level appropriate writing conventions with 80% accuracy.  Writing content will be appropriate to the target audience and will include at least one entry for each characteristic/region.  Formal evaluation of the format of the presentations is the central instructional objective of Lesson 7.
