Circumference and the Dragon of Pi
Lesson 1
Instructional Objectives: Students will become familiar with geometry vocabulary
Time Required: Two 40 minutes periods
Advanced Preparation: Prepare a list of the vocabulary words for the students
Materials: paint or drawing software
Vocabulary: circumference, diameter, radius, geometry, diagonal, parallelogram, triangle, octagon, symmetry, pi
Activities:
Session One (40 minutes)
Give students a copy of the vocabulary list. Instruct them to use the Internet to find an illustration of each word. Have students make a rough sketch of each word.

Using information gathered on the Internet Students will use paint tools to illustrate the geometry vocabulary words.

Homework:
Find an objects in the home that are made up of geometrical shapes. Make a list of the items and the geometric shape that they represent.
Evaluation:
Score the students' work on a 100 point scale. Each illustration of the vocabulary words is worth 10 points.
