Let's Make Soup!

 

Duration:                  One class period

 

Objectives:

Students will review all content learned in lessons one through four

Students will participate in making soup - A multi-sensory activity.

Students will write to describe their cooking experience.

 

Materials:

cooking utensils, crock pot, soup ingredients, a one burner electric range,

paper goods to serve the soup

Activities:

Bring cooking utensils and ingredients to cook your own soup recipe.

 Have a short discussion about cooking; also discuss with the children safety rules before cooking.

Allow children to wash their hands before cooking.

Invite the children to introduce the soup's ingredients to the crock pot.

After all ingredients are in the crock pot then turn it on and while it simmers read a couple of books from the Cooking Literature Resource list.

Home Learning:

Give this home learning assignment two or three days in advance.  Have the students clip coupons from newspapers or any other form of advertisement of food items and create a collage from the coupons clipped.

 

Extension:

Create Vegetable Prints.  Use the left over vegetables, various color paints and have students did the vegetables inside the paint and then press the vegetable on to a large white construction paper. Allow students to design their pictures in any way they choose to.
