Extension Activities

Math

*  Discuss the different ways that we can classify characteristics about ourselves. (ex.  Have Freckles, Do Not Have Freckles;  Wearing Sneakers, Not Wearing Sneakers;  Green Eyes, Another Color of Eyes;  Short Hair, Long Hair;  or  Brown Hair, Another Color of Hair)

*  Students vote on what type of characteristics they want to do.

*  Once they have chosen, they will keep a tally of the data (votes) collected on to a piece of paper.

*  Students will then make either a vertical or horizontal bar graph with the outcome of the vote using Microsoft Works/Spreadsheet/Chart.

*  Students will come up with three questions about their graph.

Language Arts

*  Students will pick two characters from the story to compare.  Demonstrate a Venn Diagram (compare & contrast) to the class and the students can go online to Venn Diagram to look at the graphic organizer that will help the students see more clearly the similarities and the differences between the characters.

*  Students will work in small groups to create a commercial to sell freckle juice.  Have each group write a commercial and perform their commercial to the class.  Encourage the students to use props!

*  Students complete a story evaluation on Freckle Juice.

*  Students will work in groups to do a fun writing activity by creating a book similar to the main characters in Freckle Juice.

*  Students could compare & contrast reasons why Andrew should get freckles to why he shouldn't get freckles.  Students can go online to Venn Diagram to look at the graphic organizer that will help the students see more clearly the similarities and the differences between having freckles to not having freckles.

*  At a Learning Center, you can have questions that the students have to answer when they are finished with their work.

Science

*  Students can go online and read what causes freckles, then they will take a quiz about the sun and your skin.

Art
