Write a Radio Show

Lesson Tip

The students may work in groups to complete this lesson. The radio shows should then be performed for the entire class.

Objectives

Materials
Computer, color ink, high quality paper for final printing, tape
recorder and tape

Procedure

  1. Have students listen to various radio shows; these can be prerecorded.
  2. Break students into groups to plan and write radio show.
  3. Groups should choose various jobs: writing, editing, publishing, readers, director.
  4. Have groups brainstorm, write, edit, rehearse and print out script
  5. Sound effects can be added (bells, whistles, percussion...)
  6. Groups should have final rehearsal.
  7. Present show to classmates.

Evaluation
Students are evaluated using a Radio Writing Rubric

Homework
Pretend that your radio show from the classroom has been
turned into a serial. Write an episode with a "cliff hangar"
ending.
