Shapes And More Shapes
Lesson One
Background Information
The world around us is filled with geometric
figures or shapes. It is important for students to develop spatial sense,
use shape as an analytic and descriptive tool, identify characteristics and
define shapes. There is a wealth of questions you can ask your students
when you take them outside for an outing to determine the many shapes found in
their surroundings. Students themselves will begin to ask questions without
realizing they are talking mathematics. This lesson allows students to "feel"
and discover the basic geometric shapes found all around us.
