Lesson Seven

Objective:  The students after reviewing the concepts on money, will take a test. (80 % accuracy expected). 

Vocabulary: bill, coin, equivalent set, penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar (penny = $0.01 or one cent; nickel = $0.05 or five cents; dime = $0.10 or ten cents; quarter = $0.25 or twenty-five cents; half dollar = $0.50 or fifty cents) 

Materials:

        * Manipulative (play money)

        * Worksheet (Test)

        * Internet

Activities: 

1.  Review vocabulary and the value of each coin.

2.  The teacher will hand out money manipulative to students and ask students to hold up the penny and say how much it's worth. The teacher will put one problem from each section up on the board. She will call student volunteers to come up to the board and solve each problem. Then the teacher will discuss with the class how each problem was solved.

3.  The teacher will let the students know that they can use their money manipulative while working on the test to help them count the money.  As the teacher distributes the tests, she will remind the students to keep their eyes on their own paper and that there wi11 be no talking allowed.

4. The teacher will collect the tests and answer any questions about the test that the students might have.

Evaluation:  Test (Money) (Students will complete the test with 80% accuracy)

Extension Activity:  Worksheet (optional) - Students will be given a opportunity to go on a fake shopping spree and spend $200.  They can go online to different websites to shop for articles that they would like to purchase.
