Lesson Three

Synonyms

Objective: Students will read text and determine the main idea and identify relevant supporting details and facts .

Vocabulary: Calm, rough, shy, shiny, plain, bloom

Working with words: The teacher will introduce synonyms by writing samples on the board, then monitor as students make a list of synonyms they find in chapter 3.

Activity: The teacher will...

1.  begin lesson by having the students share their prediction of chapter 3 and from their chart activity from the day before

2. introduce new vocabulary words and definitions for chapter 3

3.  give each student a white piece of paper, and have them fold it into 6 pieces- students can insert a table with rows and columns into word processing- then type and add clip art and/or drawings or

4.  have students write each vocabulary word, definition and illustration in each box.

5.  read and discuss chapter 3

6.  students will draw a windmill and label parts

7.  students will name 2 gifts that Sarah brought

8.  students write down describing words that Sarah thought of when she meet the children

*How do you know that Papa is excited to meet Sarah?
