Why is the Ocean Salty?
Background Information
Most of the salt in the ocean is like the salt you eat on your food. It is made of two ingredients: sodium and chlorine. Both of these ingredients are found in rocks and soil around the world. When it rains, the sodium and chlorine are washed away and carried to streams and rivers. Then, they continue to move along until they reach an ocean. There, they mix together to form salt. Over millions of years, a lot of salt has formed in our oceans.
