Latent
Image
- An image that is chemically present in a light-sensitive material because
of exposure to light, but is invisible until placed in a chemical solution
that produces metallic silver.
Latitude - The range
of contrast, or the difference between lights and darks, that can be recorded
on film. Typical negative films are capable of recording a wide range of contrast.
Transparency films generally record a shorter contrast range.
Silver Halide Black and White Film - Use
only light sensitive metallic silver to produce an image. The tones are reversed
in a print to produce a positive image.
Chromogenic Black and White Film
- Chromogenic black and white films use a dye that
binds to the developed silver to create a negative image. The tones are reversed
in a print to produce a positive image.
Color Negative Film - Chromogenic
films use dyes that bind to the developed silver to create three different
color images (yellow, magenta, and cyan) on the same piece of film.
