Livelihood of the Times
Duration:
● Two one hour sessions
Objectives:
● Students will develop beginning skills in historical analysis, including the ability to analyze records, and data, communicate findings graphically and in written form.
● Students will complete a bar graph according to information found at Virginia census.
● Students will complete the Colonial Jobs Worksheet.
Materials:
● Computer with Internet Access
● Library books
● Colonial Jobs Worksheet and Answer Key

Activities:
● Students will located information using various print and non-print resources to complete a Colonial Jobs worksheet.
● Have students make a bar graph which shows how many men performed each job, using different colors to show different categories. They should also make a color key. Information can be found at these sites:

Home Learning:
● Student can select one of the occupations researched, and design their own trade shop using a diorama including tools and people.
Extension:
