"13 Original"

Lesson Six

Background Information

Welcome to Colonial America! After the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, most European countries started to take over the newly discovered lands.  Since then more and more people had come to the Americas mostly because it was an alternative to British rule, and because of their religious beliefs.  In the early days of the colonies trade was essential.  Through trade the settlers could acquire all of the items that they couldn't yet grow or acquire on their own.  Because of this, all of the colonies were located on ports.  As more settlers arrived the villages grew into towns and the towns into colonies, "13 Original" in all.
