Objectives:

Students will be able to:

Research the rainforest and identify the locations of the rainforest.

Tell the uses of the real kapok tree.

Tell the differences and similarities between the rainforest and their home. (compare &   contrast)

Create a pamphlet on a imaginary trip to the rainforest.

Materials:

Pamphlet

Print Shop

Internet

Venn Diagram

Activities:

1.  Have the students research the rainforest and identify the locations of the rainforest on the world map. (Print it out)

2.  Discuss the real kapok tree and it uses.

3.  Demonstrate a Venn Diagram (compare & contrast) to the class and students can go on line to Venn Diagram to look at the graphic organizer that will help the students see more clearly the similarities and the differences between the rainforest and their home.

4.  Students will plan imaginary trip to the rainforest.  Make sure to include:  transportation, supplies they need, clothing to bring and what they will see.

5.  Students can use various search engines to collect information about the rainforest such as:  Google, Yahooligans, Factmonster and Askjeeves

6.  Students can use Print Shop to create a pamphlet of their imaginary trip to the rainforest.

7.  Students can go online and take a rainforest field trip.

Evaluation:

Students completed world map of the rainforest.

Students completed Venn Diagram.

Students completed pamphlet.

Home Learning:

Read a newspaper or internet article about travel. Share the who, what, why, where, and when with the class.
