Objective:

Students will be able to:

  Complete a story evaluation.

  Create a book.

  Create a pamphlet on a rainforest animal.

Materials:

  Worksheet (story evaluation)

  Created Book 

  Pamphlet 

  Print Shop 

  Internet 

Activities:

1. Complete a story evaluation on The Great Kapok Tree.

2.  Students can participate in a fun writing activity by creating a book similar to the main characters in The Great Kapok Tree but using different animals, such as a fish and a dolphin and a different type of setting.  In order to make the story accurate, the students will have to research those animals to find their similarities and differences.

3. Students can use various search engines to collect information on their animal such as:  Google, Yahooligans, Factmonster and AskJeeves

4. Students can use Print Shop to make a pamphlet on the Rainforest Animal with the following information:

* List three facts about their rainforest animal.

* New words I learned.

* What was the most interesting thing you learned about the rainforest animal?

* Why are the rainforest animals important?  List three things.

* Do you like the rainforest animals?  Why or why not?

* List any other information you would like to tell about your rainforest animal.

* Download a picture of your rainforest animal and its habitat.

***  At a Learning Center, you can have questions that the students have to answer when they are finished with their work.***

Evaluation:

  Students completed story evaluation.

  Students completed writing activity (book).

  Students completed pamphlet.

Home Learning:

  Students will write their own story about the rainforest.  Print it out.
