Math Bingo

Component:        Vocabulary/Word study

Objectives:         The student will demonstrate acquisition and use of expanded vocabulary by using
                            the context to construct meaning.

Materials:         computer, Paint, tables (see below) paper, math vocabulary words and definitions

Procedure:         1) Make a bingo card template by clicking on the word table at the top of the screen
and then clicking insert and table.
                            2)
Type in 5 for the columns and 6 for the rows
                            3) Adjust the size of the card
                            4) Type in BINGO in the top row of the card and FREE Space in the middle box.
                            5) Save it and name it template or bingo card.
                            6) Students will open template, type in words in the appropriate columns and print it.
                            7) If they want to save it, they should use their name so as not to erase the template.
                            8) Each student will have a unique card because he can place the words anywhere in
                                the column.

                    Bingo Card Directions:

Divide the list of words into five parts (the more words the better). The first part should
have the letter B in front of it. It helps if the letter B is in another color. Continue placing
the letters into the five groups so that all words are preceded by a B, I, N, G, or O. Print
a few copies of this. The students open the template and type in a word from the B list
into one of the boxes on the template under the letter B. The cards may then be laminated.
Covers may be pennies, small candies, colored papers, etc. The teacher randomly selects
words from the list, or may cut the paper into the individual words and reads the definition
while the students search for the word on their cards.
