In Ireland primary schools have an eight year program that has two years of  kindergarten and classes 1-6. Children don't have to go to school until they are six years old, when they start their two years of kindergarten. At the end of primary school cycle there are no formal examinations.

Second level education in Ireland normally starts at the age of twelve and lasts from five to six years. During this period two formal national examinations are taken, at the end of the junior cycle (year 3) and a senior cycle (years 5 or 6). We hope you have enjoyed our page.
