Many people in England spend their evenings at pubs or the local bar. A pub is a place where families gather, play games and drink. In a pub they can serve beer and other drinks, people talk with their friends and families, and they can play a game of darts or dominoes. Some popular English dishes are roast chicken, steak and kidney pie, shepherd’s pie, bangers, and mash. Steak and kidney pie is a stew made of kidneys and topped by a pastry crust. The favorite alcoholic drink in England is beer which includes larger, ale, bitter, and stout. A popular nonalcoholic drink in England is squash which you can make if you have crushed oranges or lemons. 

People in England also like fish, especially cod, Dover sole, haddock, herring, and plaice. Fish and chips is a favorite dish for lunch, the late afternoon meal called tea, or supper. Fried fish and French Fried potatoes is also popular and it is sold at specialty shops through out England. People in England eat just like any other people, only they eat different foods. On Sunday, the English eat dinner at noon. It is usually roast beef or lamb, roasted or boiled potatoes, a vegetable, and a sweet for desert. It is often fruit pie topped with hot custard sauce. 

Steak and Kidney Pie is also an English favorite served at dinner time. Yorkshire pudding, a batter cake baked in meat fat, is also often served with beef. Cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, peas, and carrots are vegetables that are grown in England’s climate. The English don’t eat many salads.
